A family affiliated with the Jehovah’s Witness approached me today wanting to share with me. I said, “I don’t mind you sharing with me, but I need to share something with you first. They obliged.
I said, “I’m a convicted murderer, a liar, a hypocrite, unfaithful, full of worry, full of fear, an addict, prone to anger, neurotic, and bankrupt. I have nothing to bring to your god. Nothing. There is nothing I can do to gain a standing before your god or gain his favor. I could never do enough to be accepted by him. He will have to save me out of his own grace based on nothing I can do.”
They were stunned, dumbfounded, and turned away.
Then I heard that still small voice of Jesus say to me, “And that’s why you cling to me, right?” To which I responded, “Mmhmm.”
